No matter how much we want to hold on to summer, the reality is that a new season is coming. With that there’s always a shift in attitudes. 

New beginnings always meant new promises to myself. Do you do that too? Maybe going to the gym more often? Maybe adopting a new healthier lifestyle? Maybe it’s a change in eating habits and more self awareness? Did you ever promise to stick to ‘A DIET“? Whoa….STOP RIGHT THERE!!

Take the ‘DIET‘ out of the equation. Don’t focus on what the scale may or may not say, that doesn’t define who you are. Why not take away that pressure and switch your focus on making small changes that can fit with your lifestyle. When you try to ‘fix’ everything at once – working on planning healthy meals, exercising, cooking, making time to eat, grocery shopping, prepping the food you bring home, making lunches, tending to family… this list is not even done and I’m exhausted just thinking about it. Imagine how you’d feel tackling it all at once.

Don’t stress. Work on ONE challenge at a time. Take for example lunch – if you’re skipping lunch because  there’s nothing available or you just have no time, what usually happens? Do you pick and graze at whatever snacks are around? Do you just grab anything that’s easy (and not necessarily the healthiest)? Do you skip it altogether and come home famished?  Confession time – years ago I used to eat spoonfuls of jam just because I couldn’t be bothered to make something and there wasn’t anything already prepared in my fridge. Boy have times changed in my house!

If this sounds like you, then I think that a good place to begin is to focus your efforts on organizing and planning your lunches and fridge.

#1 Make a huge basic salad (big enough for a few days and that can be stored in a large container or individually).

#2 Have washed and ready different foods to add to your salad:

  • chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • black beans, rinsed and drained
  • shredded carrots
  • shredded purple cabbage
  • hard boiled eggs
  • goat cheese
  • cherry tomatoes
  • peppers
  • cucumber slices
  • shredded cheese

This is just a short list of different ideas, but I think you get the point. Can you imagine how easy it would be to open that fridge door and have ALL these choices ready for you?

New season – new ideas – new beginnings – new attitude. Yay you!!! And it all starts with starting today:)
