Do you hit the snooze button an extra time, wake up late and just skip breakfast altogether? Or do you just grab a cup of coffee and run out the door? Maybe you stop at your favorite coffee shop and pick up a coffee and a little ‘special treat’?

I used to do that. I thought skipping breakfast was a good thing. And when I started to eat breakfast everyday, it used to consist of a fruit flavored Nutrigrain bar with a cup of coffee. Believe it or not, 17 years ago I really believed that was a healthy breakfast option!

When I began to lose weight I noticed that when I had a cereal bar for breakfast (that was full of sugar and highly processed), not only did I feel tired and sluggish all day long, but I didn’t make healthy food choices for the rest of the day.

One morning I tried a bowl of oatmeal and that was a game changer for me.

I didn’t realize the impact that it would have on me. But, that day I made a connection that has stayed with me and has become part of my every day regimen and lifestyle. I need to eat breakfast everyday and not just any breakfast. Don’t laugh, but my body really needs to have oatmeal, steel cut oats or 1 piece of whole grain toast with peanut butter in order to function well and make me feel good in my body.

When you begin your day with a healthy breakfast that includes complex carbs, maybe some protein, a healthy fat or even fresh fruit, you’ll soon discover that your energy level, mood and day will be so much better.
